Tropico - strategy, economic simulator

Tropico mobile strategy review

Acclaimed masters of translating PC games for mobile platforms, Feral Interactive didn’t just give a gift to strategy fans. They’ve gifted them fabulously by creating a port of the mega-hit from Chucklefish, the city-building and management strategy game Tropico.

The legendary Tropico

This game in its desktop version can without exaggeration be called legendary and cult. Moreover, it is one of the absolute record-breakers in its field in terms of popularity retention. The game has a property to retain existing fans and win new ones. The first release of the game was released back in 2001. Now there are already six releases. But the basis for creating the port was Tropico 3, the game of the series considered to be the best of them all.

The later versions of the game are certainly different for the better in terms of graphics. But in terms of gameplay, scenario and interface after the third release we haven’t seen any revolutionary changes yet. Therefore, the creators of the port made a wise decision to take the third version as the basis. Which will not raise to exorbitant heights system requirements needed to run the game.

The plot

The game is set in a Latin American country during the Cold War. The player will have to reincarnate as the leader of this country – El Presidente. The main task: to achieve prosperity of the country, personal welfare and at the same time manage not to lose power.

During the game the protagonist will have to communicate with a variety of characters. In particular, will have to interact as sympathetic to the main character nps and vice versa. In the course of this interaction, many aspects of government policy will have to be worked out.

Also in the process of governing El Presidente, a balanced relationship must be struck with the popular political currents in the country: the loyalists, the militarists and the communists. This will not be easy to achieve, as the representatives of these currents have radically opposing views on almost every aspect of governmental policy.

The advantage of the mobile version

The undisputed advantage of Tropico over other strategy games for mobile platforms is the presence of an urban development segment that is simply unmatched in games of this class. While other strategies have many gameplay constraints for construction activities, Tropico, if it has any, has only scripted constraints.

In particular, the game may not allow you to build large residential buildings on an island with a population of only 20 people. As for other construction, you can enjoy the whole program: build administrative buildings, industrial plants and luxurious hotels for tourists.

You will also have to choose the economic model of development (industrial or agricultural), form the tax policy and actively engage in building international relations.

Tropico, both the PC and mobile versions, is a game for true lovers of carefully crafted, large-scale strategies who are ready to devote more than an hour to them.
