As soon as the mobile version of the famous computer game Dead Cells was released, the users appreciated the novelty. The Dead Cells isn’t the kind of game that will keep you hooked on the monitor for hours on end. But this game is very nice for having fun while travelling.
The game, created by French developers, is the hybrid of Rogalick and metroidvania. The protagonist of the game is a very strange creature, that the developers have named an “Intelligent Clotch of Cells”. According to the game scenario, this creature must find the way out from the labyrinth and at the same time collect a lot of valuable items and defeat a lot of enemies.
The protagonist has to face a lot of very dangerous enemies, and the player’s task is not to let the protagonist die, because in case of the protagonist’s death all the game progress except for some basic skills is lost. That is, you will have to start the game almost from scratch.
During the game, the hero not only searches for treasure and defeats enemies. In the labyrinth, while exploring the various rooms and compartments, the creature replenishes its stock of weapons and artifacts needed for advancement.
There is a certain limitation: in particular, the protagonist can only carry two weapons and two auxiliary items. The assortment of weapons, which the hero can discover while exploring various rooms in the game space, ranges from edged weapons (swords, various knives) to grenades. The characteristics of the weapons found are determined at random.
Items that are dropped from defeated enemies are also very important. These items (“cells”) are a kind of in-game currency, with which you can buy very significant bonuses such as the ability to use the health restoring vial more times.
Another interesting thing about Dead Cells is that you’ll be rewarded for passing a level without ever destroying an enemy. The reward can be earned by clearing a level with all of its exposed and hidden rooms as quickly as possible. While Dead Cells has a certain relationship to metroidvania, it is a very dynamic game, unlike other games of the genre. It doesn’t have the slowness of a metroid game, where you need to analyze the situation long and hard in order to make the only right decision.
In Dead Cells you need to move and fight as fast as possible. Often the transition from one level to another is done with a single good jump. But to move from one level to another you must defeat the boss on each level, and before that the enemies of lesser rank. For each defeated enemy, the main character in the game gets 5 to 10 points. If he gets ahead of his opponent and is the first to open the time slot with some artifact stored in it, then he gets 20 prize points.
Users like the game because of its interesting and clever gameplay, and also because of its unusual and very beautiful visual design.
